Builder Tip #92 from HomebuiltHELP
Harder than you think: Making Interior Sheet Metal Cuts
Can you make a clean cutout inside a metal sheet?
We can all handle conventional metal shears for cutting the sheet aluminum used in our aircraft. It does a great job when working to separate two pieces along a common line.

However, an inside cut - as in the creating of an opening for an inspection panel - can make for a real challenge! A builder that has never had the need to remove an internal section of metal may not appreciate the effort it takes to make a clean cut that does not leave the edges deformed .

This week's Tip demonstrates making an internal cut using 3 popular tools that were designed for this job. Watch how the conventional shears cannot perform like these three tools can!

Conventional shears deform both edges
These tools really do the job nicely!
