Batteries and your engine starter need large terminals properly crimped on to large cables using special tools.
Wire cables of size 6 AWG and 4 AWG are commonly used in our experimental aircraft's battery and starter circuits. These large cables need their appropriately sized ring terminals crimped on properly for a reliable connection to the battery, starter, or contactor devices.
We cannot use the same crimping pliers that are used on the smaller size wire in the aircraft. A number of specialized tools exist that can easily crimp these larger terminals.
